Introduction to the Collection

Records consist of memos, reports, correspondence, Basic Documents, reading lists, speaker's texts, notebooks, position papers and reprints examinations, lecture schedules, General Information sheets, reading assignments, reading texts, a seating chart and student papers and journals, meeting minutes, articles, papers, bulletins and newspaper clippings, flexograph, open reel recordings and cassettes

The records document the formation and running of the Great Issues Course. Of particular note are the early memos describing the impetus for the formation of the course. The records also document the course curriculum including examples of papers written by students. There is also, sometimes extensive, correspondence with the speakers. The documentation on the speakers includes both written lectures as well as recording of their talks, seminars and forums. Also included are the records of the Great Issues Steering Committee and records of the Educational Policy Committee pertaining to the Great Issues course.
