Abstract:

Instruction in Anthropology began at Dartmouth College with general courses within the Department of Sociology, during the 1948-49 academic year. Records consist of student papers, course syllabi, correspondence, notes on programs, student grades, lecture notes, and departmental newsletters.

The materials represented in this guide may be accessed through the Rauner Special Collections Library at Dartmouth College. Rauner Library is located in Webster Hall. The materials must be used on-site and may not leave Rauner Library.

Records contain student papers, course syllabi, correspondence, notes on programs, student grades, lecture notes, and departmental newsletters; also included is a card index to New Hampshire and Vermont anthropological sites, and some information on meetings of the Northeastern Anthropological Association.

Introduction

Instruction in Anthropology began at Dartmouth College with general courses within the Department of Sociology, during the 1948-49 academic year. In academic year 1955-56, that department became the Department of Sociology and Anthropology. Anthropology was formed as its own department in 1967-68.
