Guide to the Records of the Dartmouth College, Center for Women and Gender , 1970 - 2009Manuscript DA-680

Introduction

The Center for Gender and Student Engagement, founded in 1988 as the Dartmouth College Women's Resource Center, is used by students, faculty, administrators and staff for formal and informal inquiries about how to foster increased gender equity while recognizing, accepting and celebrating the importance of class, race, age, sexuality, status and other differences. The Center also serves as a central source of information on changing gender roles and other issues raised on a coeducational campus.

As part of a series of institutional changes, The Women's Resource Center changed its name to the Center for Women and Gender in the late 1990's and again on February 1, 2013, to the Center for Gender and Student Engagement, the name change reflecting its mission to provide support to all students. The Center reports directly to the Assistant Dean of the College, a change from its previous reporting structure under the director of the Office of Pluralism and Leadership (OPAL).
