The Native American Studies (NAS) program at Dartmouth College was established as a modified department in 1972, with the intentions of creating an interdisciplinary curriculum with which to foster serious and intense study of the cultures and histories of the indigenous peoples of North and South America. Along with the department, the Native American Council functioned to coordinate social, educational, and cultural events of interest to the Native American community at Dartmouth College.
