The town of Hanover, New Hampshire, received its royal charter on July 4, 1761. The town's first settler was proprietor Edmund Freeman who arrived with his family in 1765. The Town of Hanover's archival records held in the Dartmouth College Archives span the years between 1761 and 1995, bulk between 1800 and 1970. The records document the development of the town's highways, utilities, schools, and provide vital statistics on the inhabitants of Hanover.
