Walter Rutherford Peterson, Class of 1947. Served in New Hampshire State Legislature beginning in 1960, was elected Governor in 1968. President of Franklin Pierce College 1975-1995 and trustee of the University System of New Hampshire from 1996.

Biography

Walter R. Peterson was born in 1922 in Nashua, NH. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1947. Following a career in real estate, he became active in New Hampshire politics, serving in the House of Representatives and as Governor from 1969-1973. After serving as governor, he was president of Franklin Pierce College from 1975 to 1995. Since 1996, Peterson has served as a trustee of the University System of New Hampshire.
