Abstract: Dennis Dinan, former editor of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine. Oral history interview documenting his undergraduate years and return to the College as assistant secretary of the College and editor of the alumni magazine.



Biography

Dennis Dinan was born on October 29, 1938 in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He entered Dartmouth as a member of the class of 1961 and returned to Dartmouth in 1967 to work as assistant secretary of the College. He coordinated continuing education programs for the College, including Alumni College, until May, 1973, when he was appointed the seventh editor of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine. He resigned from that position in September, 1982, following a dispute over the editorial independence of the magazine.

Scope and Contents of Collection

The oral history interview of Dennis Dinan is comprised of audiocassette recordings and an indexed transcript of the recordings. The interview was conducted by Mary Donin during February 2003. The entire interview runs for approximately four hours and covers his undergraduate years at the College and his work as assistant secretary of the College and editor of the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine and the circumstances of his resignation from that position.
