BiographyColette Gaudin was born in France on April 10, 1928 and following her education at the Sorbonne and the Ecole Normale Superieure, she taught philosophy in France and in Canada. She was hired as an instructor in French and Italian at Dartmouth in 1961 and rose through the ranks to become a full professor and chairman of the department of French and Italian. In 1987 she was awarded the Order of the Palmes Academiques by the French government. She retired from Dartmouth in 1993. Scope and Contents of CollectionThe oral history interview of Colette Gaudin is comprised of audiocassette recordings and an indexed transcript of the recordings. The interview was conducted by Jane L. Carroll on September 19, 1996. The entire interview runs for approximately one and a half hours and covers her experiences as one of the first female instructors at Dartmouth in the early sixties and the changes she witnessed in the decades following coeducation.
