Biography

Carl F. Long was born on August 6, 1928 in New York. He attended MIT for his undergraduate work and received his doctorate in engineering from Yale. Long was hired by Dartmouth in 1954 and was named dean of the Thayer School in 1972, a position he held until 1984.

Scope and Contents of Collection

The oral history interview of Carl Long is comprised of audiocassette recordings and an indexed transcript of the recordings. The interview was conducted by Chris Burns on February 22, 2001. The entire interview runs for approximately two and a half hours and covers his career as a faculty member and dean of the Thayer School of Engineering during the presidencies of John Kemeny and David McLaughlin.
