Biography

Edward J. Shanahan was born on July 21, 1943. He holds a BA from St. Joseph's College, an MA from Fordham University and a PhD from the University of Wisconsin. He was dean of students at Wesleyan from 1972 to 1982 before coming to Dartmouth in 1982 as dean of the college. He left Dartmouth in 1991 to become head of the Choate Rosemary Hall School.

Scope and Contents of Collection

The oral history interview with Edward Shanahan is comprised of audiocassette recordings and an indexed transcript of the recordings. THe interview was conducted by Daniel Daily on March 27, 2002. The entire interview runs for approximately two hours and covers his nine years as dean of college under Presidents David McLaughlin and James Freedman.
