Reginald Harcourt Dodds, Dartmouth Class of 1958 and former Trustee of the College and Overseer of the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration. Oral history interview documenting his undergraduate years and years of service to the College as a trustee and overseer.

Introduction to the Collection

The oral history interview of Reginald Harcourt Dodds is comprised of audiocassette recordings and an indexed transcript of the recordings. The interview was conducted by Chris Burns during May 2001. The entire interview runs for approximately ten hours and covers his undergraduate experiences and his life as a fraternity brother and an involved student. Mr. Dodds describes the life of a Black Dartmouth student in the 1950s when the number of minorities on campus was very limited. He was the first African-American elected to the Board of Trustees and discusses the challenges facing the Board during his tenure, including the impact of coeducation, year-round operation and the election of David McLaughlin.

Biography

Reginald Harcourt Dodds was born in New York City in 1938. He completed his undergraduate degree at Dartmouth in 1958 and received his law degree from Yale in 1961. Mr. Dodds was named a trustee of the College in 1973 and served for ten years. He also served as an overseer of the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration from 1974 to 1984.
