Series 1, Papers, 1894-1990 (bulk:1968-1989)

Contains articles, clippings, correspondence, theatre programs, drafts, grant proposals, memos, resumes, photographs, reports, and other materials. The series documents Hill’s research on Nigerian, South African, Asian and experimental threatre. The series also documents professor Hill’s tenure at Dartmouth through papers related to affirmative action, the Drama department and black studies as well as professional organizations Hill was involved with.

Series 2, Personal Files, 1946-2003

Contains personal and professional correspondence, newspaper and magazine clippings, reviews, programs and publicity material, lecture notes, exams and student papers, plays and playbills, brochures, photographs, newsletters, reports and organizational minutes related to Hill's family, his teaching at Dartmouth College and at the University of the West Indies, his involvement with the Whitehall Players, Trinidad, the Planned Creative Arts Center, Trinidad, conferences and research trips, the American Society for Theatre Research, the American Theatre and Drama Society and other theatre related organizations as well as his interest and research in theatre history.

Contains manuscripts of articles, bibliographies, research notes and materials, correspondence, newspaper and magazine clippings, plays and lecture notes related to his publications, including “The Jamaican Stage, 1655-1900,” “History of African American Theatre,” his plays “Dimanche Gras,” “The Silver Palace,” “Strictly Matrimony,” and “Man Better Man”.

Series 4, Research materials for teaching, 1800- 2003

Contains scripts, student papers, magazine articles, newspaper clippings and news releases, brochures and magazines, reports, correspondence, reviews, research notes and materials, programs and playbills, song booklets and realia related to Hill’s research and teaching of Caribbean theatre, culture and playwrights such as Derek Walcott, Roderick Walcott, Douglas Archibald, Lennox Brown, Louise Bennet, Alwin Bully, David Edgecombe, Francis Quamina Farrier, Anthony Hinkson and Freddie Kissoon. Also includes materials related to the history of Calypso music, steel bands, carnival, African theatre and culture, South American theatre, black music, dance, and literature, African-American theatre and artists such as August Wilson and black theatre companies.
