Introduction to the Collection

The papers of Wendell Howard Woolworth contain photographs, professional and personal correspondence, military medals and certificates. The papers document his life and particularly focus on his part in both World Wars and roles in fraternal organizations.

Biography

Wendell Howard Woolworth (1891-1965). Retired as a Major in US Army was also a columnist for the Buffalo Courier Express. Dartmouth Class of 1915; Thayer School of Engineering, 1916. Woolworth was assistant to the Chief Engineer on the construction of the Holland Tunnel and commanded the first company of Americans to land in France in World War I.
