Introduction to the Collection

Contains letters to Holland from Moses Pendleton, co-founder of the Pilobolus Dance Theatre. The letters document the early months of Pilobolus and provide insight into the personal lives of the dancers and their nascent attempts at touring. Included are accounts of performances at Smith (opening for Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention,) Middlebury and Bennington Colleges. There is also discussion of Pilobolus' agent Mark Amitin, who they met at their first touring show at Goddard College, as well as accounts of injuries and the groups time at Pendleton's house at Lochlyndon Farm in Vermont. Two black and white photographs and a few promotional flyers are included.

Philip Holland, non-graduate, Dartmouth class of 1971. Professor of English at Anatolia College, Greece.
