Introduction to the Collection

Contains correspondence, photographs, a scrap book, maps, poetry, newsclippings, ephemera and an art print folio of WWI aviation. Of note is detailed correspondence from George Dock, Jr. to his family from France in World War I. The letters record in great detail Docks time in the ambulance corps, aviation school and as a pilot in Escadrille Spad 12.

The collection also contains 3 maps of France which presumably show the areas Dock saw service, a folder of Dock's poems, newspaper clippings related to the Lafayette Flying Corps, photographs of Dock's time in the Ambulence Corps and Flying Corps, ephemera, as well as items relating to the Lafayette Escadrille Memorial and the L'Escadrille Lafayette Flying Corps Association.

The collection supports the George Dock, Jr. Fund in Rauner Special Collections Library.
