Introduction to the Collection

The papers of Charles R. Jackson contain personal and professional correspondence including correspondence with Robert Benchley, Thomas Mann, Billy Wilder, Charles Brackett, Katherine Hepburn, Bennett Cerf, Archibald MacLeish, Robert Nathan, Dorothy Parker, Maurice Rapf and Dorothea and Roger Straus. The collection also contains manuscript drafts for his short stories, book reviews, radio plays, essays and books, including "The Lost Weekend," and "A Second Hand Life," as well as scrapbooks relating to some of his works. Photographs of Jackson and his family, as well as publicity shots taken by Ilse Bischoff, Paul Cordes and United Press International Photos and photographs of Jackson with Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett are also included.
