Guide to the Papers of Laverne George, 1938 - 1999Manuscript MS-1072

Introduction to the Collection

The Papers of Laverne George contain articles, book reviews, art reviews, book manuscripts, self-published books, short stories and travelogues. She completed research on the wives of many famous artists, and there are two volumes of that work included in the collection. Entitled "Artists' Wives," the book pulls together her own theories and the known facts about the wives of such men as Rembrandt, Rodin, Kandinsky, Picasso and Monet, among others. The collection also contains George's journals. Spanning the years from 1940 to the late 1990s, she wrote almost daily, leaving a detail account of her life and her husband, their family, their travels, their friends, and the work they were doing. Also included in Mrs. George's personal materials are photographs, correspondence and audiocassettes.
