Introduction to the Collection

The papers of Sherman Everett contains 422 bound carbon copies of correspondence, dated May 15, 1914 to December 5, 1916 and an additional file of 20 separate typewritten letters and lists of names, dated May 9 to 26, 1917. These letters from the years immediately preceding Burroughs' election to the U.S. House reflect his commitments to children's welfare, women's rights, the Republican Party, and the settling of his uncle Henry M. Baker's estate. Burroughs corresponded with many notable political figures, including New Hampshire Governor Rolland Spaulding and Senator Jacob H. Gallinger.
