Introduction to the Collection

The record books of Timothy Gerrish contain lists of prison commitments during the time he served as jail warden at the Islington Street Jail in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, as well as several pages of mathematics problems related to "The Rule of Three Direct" an ancient mechanical method for solving proportions, and "Simple Interest." An additional account book contains lists of writs served by Daniel Webster, George W. Prescott, Charles Cutts, Edward Cutts, John P. Lord and Joseph Bartlett.
