Sampson A. Reed (1849-1908), lawyer. Dartmouth College Class of 1874. The collection consists of three notebooks with lecture notes and abstracts of lectures Reed attended at Dartmouth College.

Introduction to the Collection

The collection contains three notebooks with lecture notes kept by Reed while he was a student at Dartmouth College. They include notes and abstracts from lectures on international law delivered by Prof. Laberee, lectures on intellectual science and Pomeroy's constitutional laws.


Sampson Augustus Reed was born on December 8, 1848, in Suffolk County, Massachusetts. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1874. After graduation he started teaching school and became principal in Glencoe, Minnesota, before studying law. He was admitted to the bar in 1877, after which he opened a private practice. In 1883, he joined Judge Seagrave Smith to form the law firm of Smith & Reed where Reed specialized in land title and real estate law. Reed died on May 31, 1908, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
