Maude D. French (1900-1985), art librarian, Baker Library at Dartmouth College. The collection contains instruction materials related to her service as an air raid warden in Hanover, NH during WWII.

The materials represented in this guide may be accessed through the Rauner Special Collections Library at Dartmouth College. Rauner Library is located in Webster Hall. The materials must be used on-site and may not leave Rauner Library.

Introduction to the Collection

The papers of Maude D. French contain memoranda, ration cards, books and tokens, flyers, letters and photographs related to her service as an air raid warden in Hanover, District A-1, NH during WWII. The material is primarily instructional in nature.

Biography

Maude Dorrance French was born on August 31, 1900. She attended Simmons College from which she graduated with a library degree in 1923. She worked for the Detroit Public Library and the New York Public Library before joining the staff at Baker Library at Dartmouth College in 1928. In 1929, she became the art librarian, a position she held until her retirement in 1963. French died on April 14, 1985.
