Abstract:

The Papers of Ichabod Bartlett (DC Class of 1808) contain one essay, nineteen letters, and one typed transcript of a letter. They document his personal and professional relationships with his nephew, two brothers, and New Hampshire Governors Benjamin Pierce and William Plumer. Ichabod Bartlett (IB) was born in Salisbury, NH in 1786. He became a well known lawyer, a member of the New Hampshire State House of Representatives (where he also served as Speaker), a U.S. Representative for New Hampshire in Washington, a candidate for Governor of New Hampshire, and was also a delegate to the state's Constitutional Convention. He died in Portsmouth, NH in 1853.
