BiographyDr. Alvar Carrillo Gil, painter, collector and patron of the arts, born 1899 Opichin (Yucatan) Mexico. Carrillo Gil was motivated to begin collecting art by his facsination with the work of Jose Clemente Orozco (1883-1949). He is credited with filling the void left by the Mexican government and other private collectors in stemming the loss of Orozco's work to collectors in the United States. Scope and Contents of CollectionConsists of mimeographed notes on the collection of Dr. Alvar Carrillo Gil of the works of artist Jose Clemente Orozo. The notes, once bound together are titled "Las Obras de Orozco en la Colleccion Carrillo" ("The Works of Orozco in the Carrillo Collection"). Professor Justino Fernandez provides an overview of the collection followed by an analyses of the works accompanied by tipped in photographic reproductions of each of piece.
