Introduction to the Collection

The Papers of Virginia Close consists of a typed report on Frederick Ernest; typed and handwritten correspondences between Virginia Close and several historical societies; as well as photocopies of maps, charters, journal entries of Eleazar Wheelock, various correspondences, the Connecticut Gazette (1755) and the London Summary (1758), censuses, birth indexes, shipping indexes, and encyclopedia entries. Also included are several bibliographies and catalogue entries. The papers document Close's research of Frederick Ernest and his role in the history of Dartmouth College.
