Chauncey Newell Allen was born on August 15, 1900. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1924. After working in advertising in New York City, he returned to Dartmouth in 1925 as an instructor in the psychology department. In 1927, he received his MA degree from Dartmouth and in 1931, his doctorate from Columbia University. At Dartmouth, Allen taught courses in abnormal psychology and the psychology of advertising until his retirement in 1966. He also maintained a practice in clinical psychology, counseling local families. In addition, he served as the local administrator for the Educational Testing Service of Princeton, NJ. In 1969 Allen and his wife volunteered as Presbyterian missionaries to Korea. Allen died in 1997.
