Introduction to the Collection

The papers of Charles Wellington Furlong contain photographs, negatives, lantern slides, dermatoglyphs (hand prints and foot prints), notes, published works, language tapes, manuscripts, drawings and correspondence related to his research on the Fuegian tribes of Tierra del Fuega. Photographs, notes, printed material, wax cylinder recordings and correspondence related to his travels in South America, Patagonia, French Guiana, Africa, the Near East, Surinam, Venezuela and Bolivia are also included.
