Sacariasen was a Norwegian hired to come to Alaska as a cook with the Scandinavian
reindeer herders. His diary tells of his impressions of the country: “the way in which
the relief expedition to Dawson went sour, his transfer to the Bering Sea reindeer
stations, and his adventures in the gold fields of Nome.
