Narration: Gene Jones; Script: Barbara M. Wells; Producers: John W. Robert and Clayton A. Ballou; An R & B Production. A film profile of Ross McKenney which tells of his work with the Dartmouth Outing Club down through the years. In his early years Ross, a Maine guide and champion moose-caller, traveled with Teddy Roosevelt in a presidential campaign, opening rallies with the spine-tingling cry of the bull moose. He became "Dartmouth College Woodsman" in 1937, and since that time has taken countless Dartmouth men back to the wilderness and taught them how to live in it. He figures that a man who can take care of himself in the out-of-doors will be able to handle the problems which arise in other situations as well. The film shows Ross participating in Woodsman's Weekend (which he founded), and instructing students in flycasting, wood chopping, and whitewater canoeing. Running time: 13 min.

Narration: Lowell Thomas; Music: James Bradford; Photography: J.V.D. Bucher; Writer, Editor, Director and Producer: Christopher Young. A comedy film about the misadventures of Scandanavian Baron Dr. Wolfgang Schlitz climbing up and skiing down Mt. Washington unconcerned with the many hazards which surround him. An offbeat meeting with a local beat, the Mad Monk on Mount Washington, adds to the merriment of Schlitz's precarious trip down the slopes. There are good gags and a lively musical score, and even Lowell Thomas seems to be enjoying his narration for a change./ Running time: 21 min.

PRODUCTION: The Bray Studios; DISTRIBUTOR: Goldwyn Pictures; A Goldwyn-Bray Pictograph./A theatrical short subject, made about 1920, with lots of skiing by the Dartmouth Outing Club. Included are ski hikes, ski jumping, tobogganing, and an obstacle course race, along with general campus scenes and coverage of the Winter Carnival festivities. There are even a few "fair visitors" -- perhaps not as attractive as Norma Talmadge or Lillian Gish, but then not so bad looking either. A Dartmouth College Films Presentation./For Dartmouth men spring has always been the favorite season of the year. In this old film, we see the students, looking a bit wan in faded Kodachrome, joyously taking advantage of the spring sunshine by engaging in track, tennis, golf, softball, sunbathing, and whitewater canoeing. This production is of interest only from a nostalgic and historical point of view. Running time: 11 min.

An Official Films Release./The place is Sun Valley, Idaho and this is the day of the ski chase, one of the most thrilling events of winter sports. It's a ski version of the old hare and hounds game -- a fame fraught with peril and open only to the most expert. In this case the "hare" is world champion Dick Durrance '39. Dick wears a red cap to make him visible against the snow, and the object of the game is for the "hounds" to capture the cap from him. The exciting chase is accompanied by a musical score. Quite an entertaining film for ski fans. Also at UCLA. Running time: 9 min.

The Thayer School of Engineering, approaching it's 100th anniversary in 1971, is noted for its high quality professional engineering training. In 1960 the School appointed a new Dean -- Myron Tribus. In this film Dean Tribus tells why he decided to accept Dartmouth's invitation and describes some of the current projects and curriculum improvements which are taking place. The chief question raised by the film is, "If an engineering student spends an extra year studying liberal arts subjects is he just a year older or has he something to show for it?" Dean Tribus believes the latter proposition to be correct, and adds: "When a project moves out of the scientific laboratory it has to be managed by someone. That man has to have an engineering background. The best background for a man who wants to be on top of these new ventures is a good liberal education followed by professional training. This is a rare combination -- but we have it here." NARRATOR: Dean Myron Tribus, Thayer School of Engineering; PRODUCTION: Campbell Films; Presented by Dartmouth College Films. Running time: 10 min.
