Colette Gaudin was born in France on April 10, 1928 and following her education at the Sorbonne and the Ecole Normale Superieure, she taught philosophy in France and in Canada. She was hired as an instructor in French and Italian at Dartmouth in 1961 and rose through the ranks to become a full professor and chairman of the department of French and Italian. In 1987 she was awarded the Order of the Palmes Academiques by the French government. She retired from Dartmouth in 1993.
