Margaret Huling Bonz was born on August 22, 1941 in Dayton, Tennessee. She completed her undergraduate degree at Emory University, received her master's degree from the University of Maryland and her PhD in counseling from Syracuse University. Bonz came to Dartmouth in 1975 and served as the first fulltime affirmative action officer. She became dean of freshman in 1981. Bonz left Dartmouth in 1987 to become head of the Ethel Walker School.
