Introduction to the Collection

The oral history interview of George Colton is comprised of audiocassette recordings and an indexed transcript of the recordings. The interview was conducted by Jane L. Carroll in February 1997. The entire interview runs for approximately two hours and covers his undergraduate years at the college as well as the administrations of John Dickey and John Kemeny, and his work in the alumni and development office. Mr. Colton discussed various fundraising programs, and the effect that certain events had on fundraising, such as the 1970's oil crisis, coeducation, the Indian Symbol debate, the diversification of the student body and the emerging of the Dartmouth Review.
