Laura Waterman, b.1939. Author of "Losing the Garden" and co-author with Guy Waterman of "A Fine Kind of Madness," "Forest and Crag" and "Yankee Rock and Ice." A 1962 graduate of Hollins College in Virginia, Waterman worked as an editor in New York before moving to Vermont in 1973 with husband Guy Waterman. Waterman has also been a contributor to "Appalachia," "Backpacker," "Vermont Life" and "Climbing" magazines. Guy V. Waterman (1932-2000), worked as a speechwriter for Presidents Eisenhower, Nixon and Ford as well as for the General Electric Corporation until 1973. Alongside his wife, Waterman authored books on hiking in the Northeast and backcountry ethics. Waterman committed suicide atop Mt. Lafayette in New Hampshire in the winter of 2000.
