Sherman Everett Burroughs (1870-1923), Dartmouth Class of 1894. US Congressman from New Hampshire (1917-1923). Burroughs studied law at Columbian University in Washington, DC and was involved in a number of social welfare endeavors in NH before his election to Congress, including orphaned children and women's suffrage. Burroughs was President of the New Hampshire Children's Aid and Protective Society as well as being a trustee of the Concord Orphans Home.
