Guide to the Papers of Andrew Wood, 1937 - 1942Manuscript MS-1102

Introduction to the Collection

The Papers of Andrew M. Wood consist of correspondence with his parents and one undergraduate essay, altogether documenting his time at Dartmouth College. The Papers provide a day-to-day outlook of student life at the College. Some topics of interest include Andrew's involvement in the Winter Carnival of 1939 and recreational skiing, and his membership in such Dartmouth organizations as the Delta Tau Delta fraternity, Council on Student Organizations, Band, and Green Key. Andrew discusses the Winter Carnival of 1939 in great detail. He also pledged Delta Tau Delta as a senior, after initially rejecting fraternity bids during his sophomore year and later struggling with his decision. Another area of interest is Andrew's reaction to the attack on Pearl Harbor in December of 1941, and later, his process of applying to both the United States Navy as a member of the Naval Communications Service and the Yale School of Law during the spring of his senior year.
