Guide to the Papers of Veronica Ruzicka, circa 1940 - 1981Manuscript MS-1125


Veronica Ruzicka was born on Sept. 29, 1917 in New York City. She was the daughter of Rudolph Ruzicka, a prominent illustrator and typeface designer. Veronica graduated from Barnard College in 1939. She continued her education at the Grand Central School of Art, Columbia University and New York University where she attended classes in military map making and photogammetry. She was employed for several years as a map maker in New York City and later as an illustrator with publishing houses in Boston, where she assisted in the preparation of early volumes of the Adams Papers. She was also an artist, specializing in book illustrations, maps and creating decorative end papers as Proteus Papers. In 1961 she married Alexander Laing a professor at Dartmouth College. Veronica Laing died at the age of 64 in 1981 at Hanover, NH.
