Charles Joseph Zimmerman was born February 9, 1902, in New York City. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1923, and from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration in 1924. Except for service in the U.S. Navy during World War II, his entire professional career was spent in the insurance business. From 1952 to 1972, Zimmerman was a member of the Dartmouth College Board of Trustees, serving as chairman of the board from 1970-1972. He also chaired the Bicentennial Executive Committee (1967-70), was national chairman of the Capital Gifts Campaign (1956-1959), chairman of the Alumni fund (1950-1951), president of the Class of 1923, (1954-1959) and a member of the Board of Overseers of the Tuck School (1951-1957). Zimmerman died February 24, 1994, in Hartford, Connecticut.
