Jared P. Hubbard, Union soldier. Born in 1838. Consist of letters, notices and a photograph documenting his experiences while away from home, serving in the 2nd New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry Regiment.

Introduction to the Collection

The papers of Jared P. Hubbard consist of handwritten letters, with transcription, sent from Civil War battlefields to his wife Judith, his mother and his son. They also contain his promotion and discharge notices, a sales deed for a plot in Forest Glade Cemetery, Somersworth, New Hampshire, as well as a signed photograph portrait of him and a pocket sized copy of "The New Testament" (1861).


Jared P. Hubbard was born in 1838 in Great Falls (Somersworth), New Hampshire. He enrolled in the Union Army, Company B of the Second Regiment of New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry on August 8, 1862. He was made a sergeant and corporal in 1864, and discharged on June 9, 1865.
