Warner Bentley was born December 3, 1901, in Bradley, South Dakota. He received his B.A. from Pomona College in 1926, and attended the Yale School of Drama. He came to Dartmouth in 1928, as an instructor in the English department and director of the theater program. Though he had offers to relocate and work on Broadway, Bentley stayed on at Dartmouth having been promised a new drama facility. Thirty-four years later this promise was fulfilled with the opening of the Hopkins Center. He retired in Sept. 1969, as Director, Emeritus of the Hopkins Center for the Performing Arts. Bentley was awarded an honorary master of arts degree 1937. Bentley died December 26, 1987.
