Sylvia Clark was born in Derry, New Hampshire, in 1871. She met the poet Robert Frost early in life; her father, Dr. David S. Clark, was the physician to Frost's family while Frost was living in Derry. Sylvia Clark attended Pinkerton Academy and Wellesley College. She returned to New Hampshire to teach at Pinkerton Academy from 1905 to 1932. Robert Frost, also a teacher at Pinkerton from 1906-1911, wrote a humorous poem for Clark titled "An A No. 1 Sundown." Sylvia Clark died in 1978.
