The Bartlett Family, the descendants of New Hampshire’s first governor, Josiah Bartlett, comprised a long line of scholars, missionaries, and politicians. The papers comprise primarily correspondence between members of the Bartlett family, particularly the Rev. Samuel Colcord Bartlett, who was President of Dartmouth from 1877-1892. Also included is official correspondence relating to Bartlett’s presidency as well as correspondence with friends and some informal notes, essays, and receipts. Because of the repetition of names (Samuel, Levi, etc.), some members of the family are identified by their birth year.
