Introduction to the Collection

The lecture notes of George S. Gove contain notes for several medical classes taken during his time at Dartmouth Medical School. Notes include sketches and recipes for making drugs.


George Sullivan Gove was born September 22, 1828 in Whitefield, NH. He graduated from Dartmouth Medical School in 1859. After graduation he returned to Whitfield to practice medicine. When he was no longer able to travel for his practice, he assumed the medical work in the Barron, Merrill and Barron chain of hotels. Gove was also president of the White Mountain Medical Society, examiner for several life insurance companies, as well as a director and later president of the Whitefield Bank and Trust Co. Gove died June 13, 1912.
