Raymond Cutting (1884-1960). The correspondence consists of letters and ephemera relating to Cutting's time at Dartmouth College and his later activities with the Office of Alumni Affairs.

Introduction to the Collection

The Raymond Cutting papers contains correspondence between college friends, including John Doheny and C. Elbeter Dole, reporting on early 20th century college life and the initial years after graduation. The collection also includes ephemera from Cutting's time at Dartmouth, including material related to the Office of Alumni Affairs, subscriptions for football season tickets, and solicitations for alumni donations. Accounts of his life upon graduation as he worked for lumber operations, NYC Bell Telephone Company, and a mineral water company, are also included.


Raymond Cutting was born on July 2, 1884, in Northfield, Vermont. He started his college career at the University of Vermont, but transferred to Dartmouth College in his senior year. He graduated from Dartmouth in 1906. After graduation, Cutting worked for the Adirondack Ozonia Water Company before moving to New York City to work for the New York Telephone Co. He resigned from the company in 1911, due to poor health. Later on he engaged in lumbering operations in Tupper Lake, N.Y. Raymond Cutting died in Montpelier, Vermont on December 20, 1960.
