Ira Stockbridge born in Alton, NH in 1841. Stockbridge served as a soldier in the First Regiment New England Volunteer Cavalry (also known as First Regiment Rhode Island Volunteer Cavalry), later became Company I in the First Regiment NH Volunteer Cavalry. Enlisted Dec. 2 1861 as Private, captured. June 18, 1863 near Middleburgh, Va; parolled; captured Oct 12, 1863, Culpeper, Va; parolled; re-enlisted Jan 2, 1864; captured Sept 28, 1864, Waynesborough, Va.; parolled Feb 28, 1865; discharged to date July 15, 1865. Sometime after the war, took up residency in Osborne, Kansas.
