Sacariasen was a Norwegian hired to come to Alaska as a cook with the Scandinavian reindeer herders. His diary tells of his impressions of the country: “the way in which the relief expedition to Dawson went sour, his transfer to the Bering Sea reindeer stations, and his adventures in the gold fields of Nome.

Miss Hastings's conclusions concerning the [UNK] of the [UNK] in 1898, which her letter in Folder 1 mentions, can be found in Stef. Mss. 119.
